On October 25, 2009 a rockslide at mile marker three on Interstate 40 in North Carolina forced the closure of both eastbound and westbound lanes for an unspecified period of time.
Travelers Information
Travelers seeking information for an alternate route around the rock slide can click here for an alternative route along US Highway 25/70. Commercial traffic is not allowed to travel on this route and must take the official detour of I-26 to Johnson City then to I-81 to connect back to I-40 in Dandridge.
US Highway 25/70 is the quickest detour to bypass I-40 and gets you back on I-40 in the shortest amount of time. The following video, courtesy of WBIR-TV Knoxville, documents the quickest route to bypass the rockslide.
Local Business Information
The Cocke County Partnership is working to insure the viability of our local businesses with the closure of I-40.
